Summer Reading Recommendations

In the early Summer of 2022 our church family had a teaching series on growing together as the family of God. We explored how local churches are called to function as “households of faith” (Galatians 6:10) in how we carry each other’s burdens. The teachings focused on the themes of marriage, singleness, age groups and vocations, unpacking how Jesus calls us understand and support one another.

You can watch all messages in this series on YouTube.

The books below represent some helpful literature to help us continue thinking about how we can best live into our own callings whilst understand those of our brothers and sisters in Christ.

THE LIFE WE’RE LOOKING FOR

Bestselling author and cultural critic Andy Crouch reveals how we traded lives of rich relationship for a world of impersonal power - and how each of us can fight back. From the generosity of early Christians to the efforts of entrepreneurs working to create more humane technology, This book shows how we can restore true community and put people first in a world dominated by money, power and devices.

7 MYTHS ABOUT SINGLENESS

This book sets forth a positive vision of singleness by responding to seven common misconceptions, such as the notion that singleness is too hard, requires a special spiritual gift, is a hindrance to ministry, or is a waste of sexuality. This book will help listeners better understand, support, and empower the singles around them to contribute to the flourishing of the church as a whole.

YOU AND ME FOREVER

Marriage is great, but it's not forever. It's until death do us part. Then come eternal rewards or regrets depending on how we spent our lives. In his latest book, Francis Chan joins together with his wife Lisa to address the question many couples wonder at the altar: "How do I have a healthy marriage?" Setting aside typical topics on marriage, Francis and Lisa dive into Scripture to understand what it means to have a relationship that satisfies the deepest parts of our souls.

EVERY GOOD ENDEVOUR

This book provides the foundations for a work-life balance where we can thrive both personally and professionally. Keller shows how, through excellence, integrity, discipline, creativity and passion in the workplace, we can impact society for good. Developing a better attitude toward work releases us to serve others humbly and to worship God every day and leaves us deeply fulfilled.

A CREATIVE MINORITY

This book paints a compelling picture of the way the church is called to participate in these challenging and demanding times - seeking neither to control nor abandon the world, but to love it to new life through redemptive participation.
