The story of Jesus
2,000 years ago, Jesus Christ of Nazareth started a movement that has revolutionised human history. It is a movement that centres upon the message of God’s grace. Here’s how one of the earliest followers of Jesus described the heart of this message …
“God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8)
Jesus lived a sinless life, perfectly obeying God and loving people. He died a death in our place, making a way for every one of us to be forgiven and reconciled to God. He rose again from the grave, blazing a trail into eternal life for all who believe in Him. In all these ways, He poured out grace - God’s undeserved and unconditional love - on broken people like you and me.
Grace Church Cardiff was founded by a small community of people who love South Cardiff and have been captivated by this message of God’s grace. It was born to share Jesus with our neighbourhoods and the nations.
The story of Grace
When Jesus wanted to describe how this movement would grow to His closest friends, He used a picture …
“It is like a grain of mustard seed, which, when sown on the ground, is the smallest of all the seeds on earth, yet when it is sown it grows up and becomes larger than all the garden plants and puts out large branches, so that the birds of the air can make nests in its shade. " (Mark 4:31-32)
Back in the Summer of 2010, inspired by this picture, a couple of us began to dream about planting the good news of Jesus in the South of Cardiff, and watching it become a vibrant church community - a place where people would meet Jesus for themselves, become part of His family and find shelter in His grace. Over 7 years this dream grew, and so at the end of 2017 we gathered a group of like-minded people to join us on the adventure of starting this new church for South Cardiff.
Since 2018 we have been gathering weekly in Grangetown to encounter God and grow together in His love. We are a church of ordinary, imperfect people. But in Jesus we have discovered amazing grace. We want our lives and our church to be a place where others can discover and be transformed by it too. Grace by name, grace by nature. We are dreaming of starting other such Grace congregations throughout our region. At the end of 2023 we plan to begin planting a Grace congregation in Canton. Why not join us, in Grangetown or in Canton? Whoever you are and whatever your background we would love to welcome you!
